Allegedly in use since the fifth century, stirrups are an essential element of your horse’s tack. The stirrup is a basic but vital piece of riding equipment, as it ensures a rider remains secure in the saddle whilst enabling them to maintain a steady balance upon the horse’s back as the horse moves. Stirrups are also a mounting aid, allowing riders to lift themselves into the saddle with ease – your feet must be out of both stirrups before attempting to dismount, however, otherwise you risk getting a foot stuck and causing a potentially dangerous accident!
