Horse Girths
Girths are an essential aspect of a horse's tack. A girth is a sturdy strap which passes underneath the horse’s belly and attaches to the saddle on both sides to keep it in place and prevent slipping.
A horse girth should fit your horse correctly without pinching, tugging, or chafing. Your saddle girth should also match the style and colour of your tack.
Common types of girths include the General Purpose or English Girth, which is versatile and used for activities like jumping, dressage, or hacking. Dressage Girths are shorter to accommodate the longer girth billets of dressage saddles. Anatomical or Shaped Girths are contoured to provide added comfort and freedom of movement, which is particularly useful if your horse has a big shoulder movement thus helping reduce pressure points. Lastly, Stud Girths offer extra protection to the horse's belly during jumping, especially over fences where the horse’s hooves may strike the underside of their belly.
Typically when selecting the girth for you needs you will need to consider the type of saddle you have – double flap or monoflap. You then need to decide which material you would like your girth to be made from, usually girths are made from leather, neoprene or cotton.
